Peer Reviews – Pitches

Taylor’s DA pitch is combining her passion of music (punk, rock and alternative to be specific) and digital marketing. As she knows that her industry of interest is very competitive and very hard to land an internship, she has decided to start a page on Instagram and Facebook called Listen loud that features new up-coming artists in the genre of music she listens to. She has previously used other social media platforms such as reddit and tiktok which she said was unsuccessful and has not turned to using Instagram and Facebook which I thought was a great idea as they seem to be more appropriate platforms for her targeted audience. This DA also allows her to create an online presence and a portfolio to show off to her work to future employers of digital marketing her skills and existing work she is capable of. The methodology of her DA was very well presented with a clear timeline of when she plans to do what. Her decision of methodology of moving her DA to Instagram and Facebook is something I fully support as it’s way more assessable for users and also can reach the users easier as her content will show up on their feed is they are interested in her content, unlike reddit and linked which she previously used where users would have to search her up in order to receive her content. Looking into her Instagram page which has already been set up. She has a nice aesthetic theme going on with really good content. However, utility wise, I feel that the posts she makes could be more personalised which can draw more engagement as of right now her captions are pretty average, it gives details and information you need to know about the music but I suggested adding more personalised captions such as, “wow this song reminded me of a time when I was younger etc”. I feel like having more personalised captions can give more persona/ personality behind your posts so that your audience can feel more connected to you behind the posts you make. I also feel that personalising posts allows users to have more of an idea what the songs are about which can grab their attention to whether they want to try to give a song a listen. For example, when I heard that Taylor’s swift’s album 1989 was about Harry Styles I automatically wanted to listen to the whole album as I wanted to know how the relationship may have looked like through Taylor’s eyes, OR another scenario is people can easily relate to songs so if they knew that a song relates to their current situation, they may want to give it a listen. Another thing I suggested in her DA is to possibly make tiktok style videos on Instagram using the reel feature as Instagram is really trying to push the reel feature and slowly transition to a video platform.

Jett’s DA is all about the empowerment of fashion and how outfits can change one’s mood. He plans to execute his DA this semester on TikTok by posting small videos cuts of him and his roommates everyday showing off their daily outfits. Although Jett has provided a lot of background research in his pitch it would have been great if he could expand more on his DA idea as to how he plans to execute everything such as methodology of the Tiktok videos itself in his blog. The concept of his da is very meaningful and lovely and he briefly speaks about the methodology and utility of his project. He also plans to write a blog post at the end of the semester talking about all the research he has done about his topic of how fashion can affect one’s mood and overall health. Suggestions I gave Jett on his DA was telling him how he could possibly make his Tiktok’s a tiny bit more complex such as telling his viewers where he got his outfits from; this is because Tiktok is a platform that loves to learn. I also suggested he could make videos with all the research he has been doing into Tiktok videos to educate his audience and challenge them to express themselves through fashion, as a Tiktok addict myself, I love videos that start off by challenging me. Overall, the quality pitch was presented pretty well, it was clear and easy to understand covering all aspects of concept, methodology and utility. However, it would have been great if those concepts were further expanded in the blog. He also had a lot of background research to back the concept of his topic but I personally would have preferred it if it was summarised shorter so that he could talk more about the DA pitch itself in the blog.
